New outdoor dining spaces installed to support hospitality businesses

Central Goldfields Shire will install five new outdoor dining areas in Maryborough this week.
The project has been made possible with funding from the State Government’s Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package aimed at supporting the hospitality industry to rebuild from the economic and social impacts of the pandemic.
The parklets are an extension of the footpath that allows additional space for businesses to use the street area for outdoor dining. The planter boxes aim to improve the aesthetics of the streetscape.
The locations include:
- Maggies Coffee Lounge – planter boxes
- Supreme Court Hotel – planter boxes
- Bangkok Thai on High –parklet outdoor area with planter boxes & synthetic grass floor
- Bird on a Wire – raised floor and planter boxes to create an outdoor dining area
- Bumpa’s Bakery in High St – bench to be installed for outdoor dining
Central Goldfields Shire Maryborough Ward Councillor Wayne Sproull said the project would allow businesses to extend their outdoor dining by providing an attractive and green space for customers to enjoy.
“Another great part of this project is that all components of the parklet have been purchased or made in our own municipality.
“The planter boxes that form the walls have been made using local timber sourced from Talbot Timbers and made by teachers and students at Maryborough Education Centre. Artificial turf and established trees have been purchased from Crameri Mitre 10, and the smaller plants were purchased through Carramar Nursery.
“This is a great project that has benefited so many in our local business community – well done to all involved.”
Bird on a Wire owner Julie Lowe said the parklet was an opportunity for their business to welcome more customers.
“Due to the small interior footprint of our business, pre-covid customer numbers have not been possible and the parklet will go some way to increase our dine-in numbers.”
