Central Goldfields Shire Council is supporting local community groups by endorsing the monthly Maryborough Tourist Market to be permanently held in Maryborough’s CBD at its Ordinary Meeting last night (26/02).

The monthly market, hosted by Maryborough Lions Club on the first Sunday of each month, has experienced steady growth during its 12 months of the trial period along sections of Alma and Nolan streets. Seventy-one stallholders attended the market in December.

On average, between 1500 and 2000 visitors visit the market each month, with many visitors being from outside the Maryborough community.

In previous years, the Maryborough Tourist Market has been held at the Maryborough Harness Racing Complex but proved unsustainable.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the re-located market has been an excellent initiative for the Maryborough Lions Club and the town.

“The relocation of the Maryborough Tourist Market has seen the event grow significantly and has increased the atmosphere and activity in the local CBD.”
