In what has been a significant week for funding announcements in the Central Goldfields Shire, the State Government yesterday (19/05) announced $2 million in urgent works for the heritage-listed Maryborough Outdoor Pool.

The funding was announced as part of the Building Works package – which will provide $2.7 billion towards projects to get thousands of people back to work.

Central Goldfields Shire Council Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said he was thrilled to hear the news that the Maryborough Outdoor Pool would receive some urgent attention.

“We’ve been advocating for this project for over two years and it’s been one of the key projects in our Priority Projects Plan we’ve been lobbying to government for.

“Thank you to the State Government and Minister Pulford for responding to our calls to ensure this iconic facility didn’t fall into disrepair.

“In May 2018 we endorsed the Draft Maryborough Municipal Olympic Complex Conservation Management Plan which provided us with a detailed assessment of the complex and recommendations for a staged plan for works.

“The Draft Plan outlined close to $2 million in priority works which includes maintenance works for the 50 m pool, 25 m pool, octagonal pool, entrance pavilion, concourse and plant room.

“With a series of Council funded improvement works set to commence this week, this funding will complement this project and mean we can keep the pool operational for years to come.”

The Council funded $216,000 improvement project will commence this week.

The project, funded as part of Council’s 2019/2020 Budget, will Include installation of two shade sails and artificial turf, and an upgrade to the plant room. More information is available here https://bit.ly/36aNYvr
