Motivating older residents to improve their physical health is the focus of the Loddon Mallee Region ‘Move It’ project.

The ‘Move It’ project is funded by the Australian Government through a Sport Australia Better Ageing grant.

$71,550 in funding will support the delivery of the ‘Move It’ initiative in the Central Goldfields Shire.

Central Goldfields Shire Cr Geoff Lovett said the initiative would support older residents to get active for fitness, enjoyment and social connection.

“To do this we are looking at hosting a series of strength training sessions at various locations across the municipality with transport also offered if required. A walking group is also being planned.

“To help us we’re inviting three members of our community to join our ‘Move It’ steering group.

“With community involvement we can work together to make sure we are reaching all members of our community and that the program is engaging, accessible and held in the right locations,” he said.
