Central Goldfields Shire Councillors voted to address concerns raised by the community about the Maryborough Aerodrome at last week’s (01/12) Council Meeting.

The motion was raised by Cr Geoff Lovett as an item of urgent business and accepted by Council.

Councillors voted unanimously that an issue associated with the Maryborough Aerodrome be considered as an item of urgent business.

“I move that the elected members of Council meet with representatives of the Maryborough Aero Club, the Hangar lessees and Council staff to identify any problematic issues that are outstanding and to see how they be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction,” he said during the meeting.

Cr Anna De Villiers thanked Cr Lovett for introducing the matter as urgent business and said she had become aware of this issue during the election campaign and that this indeed required urgent attention and needed to be resolved expeditiously.

Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said the community has made it clear resolving issues at the Maryborough Aerodrome is priority.

“During the election period and following this, our community has made it clear that resolving issues and concerns at Maryborough Aerodrome and charting a positive direction for the future so the airfield can be the key asset the community wants it to be is a top priority for the new Council,” he said.

“We know we must address concerns of the lessees as a starting point and there is urgency in this.”
