Central Goldfields Shire Council has issued two Notices of Decision to Grant a Planning Permit for the use and development of a Renewable Energy Facility (solar farm) and a Telecommunications Facility (radio link) at Carisbrook.

The Notices of Decision to Grant the Planning Permits are subject to a number of stringent conditions including ensuring electromagnetic interference, noise levels, fire and environmental management and radio emissions comply with industry and government standards.

The proposed Renewable Energy Facility would provide sufficient energy to power approximately 44,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 168,000 tonnes per year.

During the construction phase (up to nine months), the Renewable Energy Facility will create upwards of 240 jobs and inject over $400,000 into the local economy.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said this was a difficult decision, raising concerns across the community about impact to farming properties and houses in the farming area and a change in character of the area.

“Council needed to carefully weigh up state and local policies that recognise the significance of agricultural land and state policy requiring us to facilitate appropriate development of energy supply infrastructure.”
