At an Ordinary Meeting of Council last night (24/03) Central Goldfields Shire Council adopted the 2020-2025 Economic Development Strategy and Tourism and Events Strategy.

Both strategies aim to support a thriving economy that increases wellbeing through local business establishment and support, investment attraction, job creation and greater workforce participation.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the strategies were vital considering the current pandemic situation and its impact on local business.

“We’re very aware our local businesses are being hit hard and whilst we need to be focusing on the economic impacts of the current climate in the short-term, these strategies will be paramount in the recovery process and building economic resilience over time.

“We thank the hundreds of local business and tourism operators that were involved in our extensive community engagement process and we look forward to seeing this work help strengthen our local economy for many years to come.”

Identified as priorities in the 2017-2021 Council Plan, the two strategies were undertaken thanks to a $200,000 grant from Regional Development Victoria.
