In a significant milestone for the Carisbrook Levee project, local company Doran Earthmoving Pty Ltd has moved on site with construction works to commence today (12/10).

At the September Meeting of Council, it was noted that the Carisbrook Levee construction tender had been awarded – following a public tender process which attracted nine submissions.

The project will see the construction of part of the levee – Stage 3, with the project to be complete by the end of the year.

The project includes the construction of the Levee being the section of Pleasant Street from the Pyrenees Highway to the railway line and High Street from the railway line to Church Street.

The works involve building up, and constructing a sealed road and associated open drainage works. The works associated with the railway line and Pyrenees Highway culverts will be undertaken in the future stage.

Central Goldfields Shire CEO Lucy Roffey said seeing Doran Earthmoving on site marked yet another significant milestone in the life of the Carisbrook Flood Mitigation Levee project.

“We acknowledge that this has been a long time coming for the Carisbrook community and we are thrilled to see construction now underway on site.

“We remain committed to supporting the Carisbrook community in managing flood mitigation.”

Stages 3 and 4 are the final stages of the flood mitigation works that will see the construction of the levee.

The levee project has been designed in response to major floods which occurred in 2010 and 2011.

Significant consultation with the Carisbrook community has been undertaken over a number of years as well as consultation with referral agencies, public and private land owners prior to the planning application being lodged.
