Last week saw the soft opening of the Maryborough Skate and Scooter Park at Princes Park. It is wonderful to finally see the completion of this project which has been years in the making.

It started with some of our dedicated youth and a petition and has morphed into what we have today.

The project has had some hiccups along the way which saw a delay in construction but the crowds that I have seen use the facility so far over the weekend show it’s been worth the wait.

I’m not much of a skater (although I did try when I was younger) but this course seems to have something for all abilities. The skate community are very supportive of newcomers and having the facility to cater to all skill levels was incredibly important.

Speaking with Ed from the Skate Committee, the excitement around the possibilities can be felt, from skill workshops to competitions, the uses and events for the skate and scooter park will be plenty.

We need to give a massive shout out to Grind Projects who worked tirelessly through construction phase and un-predictable weather to finish the project ahead of our summer period.

No doubt that Santa has received numerous requests from our community members for skateboards, scooters and even BMX’s for Christmas due to the anticipation of this community asset.

If you haven’t seen it yet, go check it out. Even better, give it a try.
