What a huge two weeks for our Shire with the opening of our amazing reimagined, redeveloped former Maryborough Fire Station built in 1861, decommissioned in 1996 to then become a much loved, by the artistic and wider community, Central Goldfields Art Gallery for over 30 years. And now a National if not international standard “State of the Art” Gallery.

Thank you to the State government for the $2.28 million in funding, and to staff and volunteers for your efforts. Not only are the exhibitions spectacular but every aspect of the space, whether you are looking upwards or outwards, is a feature in itself including the circular skylight in the spine of the Gallery holding the image of the former station fire bell.

The second TILT (Triggering Innovation Leadership Transformation) workshop following the first in November was held last week. This dream project for Central Goldfields is an amazing initiative, working together with our youth, key representatives from La Trobe University Bendigo, Australian National University (ANU) and Fraunhofer Institute (Germany) for a proposed solution to build a physical and digital learning hub here in Maryborough.

It is vital that our post-secondary students have the opportunity to continue career pathways not only for their own aspirations but to also meet the needs of our existing and future workforce through opportunities to eat, sleep, play and stay in Central Goldfields. In attendance were local business owners, large company’s CEOs, the principal of Maryborough Education Centre, teachers and students and of course our council staff. Such a great attendance and thank you all.
