16 Days of Activism

Central Goldfields Shire has been working  with local organisations and community to coordinate a program with a range of events and activities to promote the global initiative 16 Days of Activism. 16 Days of Activism (to End Violence Against Women) aims to raise awareness and strengthen local interventions in violence against women and girls. This year’s theme is Respect Women / Call it Out.

2019 Program Launch

Monday 25 November, 10am to 11am

Phillips Gardens, Maryborough

Launch of the Central Goldfields' 16 Days of Activism program. Morning tea, marigolds project and program information. Co-presented by the participating collaborators.


Zonta Flowerbed Launch

Monday 25 November, 11am to 12pm

Phillips Gardens, Maryborough

Join local Zonta members to launch this annual 16 Days of Activism event.

Members will place an Orange Lady (representing victims of violence) at the flower bed each day to mark each of the 16 Days of Activism. Co-presented by Zonta and Central Goldfields Shire Council.

Women's Circle

Women's yarning and weaving with Georgia MacGuire ( Wurunjeri) a contemporary Indigenous artist based in the Central Goldfields. Presented by Go Goldfields Family Violence Action Group.


Chalking About Respect

Tuesday 26 November, all day

Locations across Maryborough

Join our local young people as they chalk and talk using street stencils with their own messages talking about their vision for a positive and respectful future. Stop and have a chat with them about their visions. Presented by Changing Our Story, Central Goldfields Shire Council.

Orange Finger-Nail Paint

Tuesday 26 November, 10am to 2pm

Simpsons Bargain Shop, High Street, Maryborough

Show your support for 16 Days of Activism at this pop-up nail painting salon using the the United Nations' colour for Elimination of Violence Against Women. Presented by Zonta.

Maryborough Regional Library

Books for young people with non-gender stereotyping and respectful relationship role-modelling and craft. Presented by Central Goldfields Libraries.

Information about local services and groups who work to increase community safety and connectedness. Co-presented by Go Goldfields Family Violence Action Group and Maryborough Rotary Club.



Using Creativity and Voice

Thursday 5 December, 12pm to 1pm

Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Neill Street, Maryborough

Local female artists and arts workers speak about the powerful role that the arts can play to create social change.

Community Vigil

Monday 9 December, 7pm to 9pm

Station Domain and Maryborough Community Hub, 48 Burns Street, Maryborough

Vigil to acknowledge the victims of violence against women and children.

Words from our community leaders and a 'Billions Rising' collective dance performance by young people from across the Shire. Co-presented by the Go Goldfields Family Violence Action Group and Maryborough Rotary Club.
