Council is playing its part in supporting local sporting clubs in their recovery from the pandemic, approving a 50 percent fee discount for the 2022/23 Financial Year at its Ordinary Meeting last week.

There are numerous clubs across the Shire who use various facilities and the fees paid across these organisations range up to $12,000 per year.

As part of the COVID-19 support measures introduced by Council in March 2020, associated fees were waived.

Central Goldfields Shire Councillor Gerard Murphy said following the expiry of waivers for these clubs, Council has had contact from clubs wishing to reduce the fees to support COVID-19 recovery.

“We know it’s been a tough few years for all community and sporting groups and that’s why it’s important for Council to offer support,” he said.

To ensure equity amongst clubs, a 50 percent discount in recognition of COVID recovery will be offered to all clubs. The financial impact to Council is $15,433.

Each of the clubs impacted will be contacted by Council officers.

Additional funding has also been allocated in the 2022/23 Financial Year Budget for a review into equitable fee structures for clubs across the Shire.
